Located immediately on the S side of Etna Rd according to the 1860s OS map. The N-S mound must have been destroyed by the mineral line railway which ran parallel to the road in the late 19th century.
Sites and Monument Record: Thornhill House Ice-house (SMR 76)

Situated on the W bank of the Union Canal near a road crossing. Shown on the 1860s OS map with a railway running alongside the canal before turning to feed the kilns. The kilns would have been for large-scale production of lime for the Almond Foundry.
Sites and Monument Record: Almond Foundry Limekiln (SMR 77)

This kiln lay on the W bank of the burn, SE of Northfield Farm. To the W is a large quarry, Northfield Limecraig, which was being worked in 1794. On the first ed OS map it is given as a limekiln, and only on the 2nd ed is it noted as disused. A second limekiln occurs to the N of the burn at NS 8045 8580, and is just outside of the Falkirk District.
Sites and Monument Record: Auchenbowie Burn Limekiln (SMR 78)

A rural kiln attached to the now ruinous small farmsteading at Birns, once part of the Lochgreen estate. Shown on the 1st ed OS map. The remains of the kiln consist of a horseshoe shaped earthern mound with stone faces visible at the sides of the open end. The pot measures c2.8m in diameter with a flue 2.0 m long. The form suggests a flare kiln. Surface drains are placed to keep the kiln dry. A circular feature to the N may represent a prehistoric hut platform rather than an earlier kiln.
Sites and Monument Record: Birns Limekiln (SMR 79)

Shown on a plan of 1797. This must have been supplied with limestone from the adjacent wharf. Coal could have been brought in by waggonway from the local collieries (RHP 242).

Built in 1772 for the Duke of Hamilton's estate at Kinneil (Burrell Papers). The draw kiln went out of use before 1799 because the quality and quantity of lime it produced did not answer to expectation. Limestone was mined from a nearby drift mine, the entrance to which is still open.
Sites and Monument Record: Craigenbuck Limekiln (SMR 85)

The remains of this flax kiln may be seen from the road between Slamannan and Shieldhill. The attribution is shown on the 1st ed OS map. It has a recessed brick arch suggesting that it has been rebuilt in the late 19th century. It may have been used latterly as a drying kiln associated with the adjacent distillery.
Sites and Monument Record: Easter Jaw Kiln (SMR 86)

Shown on the 1860s OS map as disused, a pair of kilns rested against the N embankment of the Union Canal. In this position their charging levels would have been close to the canal. The location is suitable for transport by the Forth and Clyde Canal as well as the Union Canal. These were evidently industrial draw kilns.
Sites and Monument Record: Greenbank Limekiln (SMR 87)

A disused limekiln is shown at the Herbertshire Print Works on the 1st ed OS map.

Johnston mentions a lime craig in 1723 and this quarry is still visible to the N of the Old Denny Road from Larbert. At the W end of the open workings is an entrance to a mine worked by the pillar and stall method, the roof being sandstone. The 1st ed OS map shows a limekiln beside the quarry. The wood now here is called Mine Wood. Presumably coal was also derived locally.
Sites and Monument Record: Kirkland Limekiln (SMR 89)

A draw kiln is mentioned at Larbert in 1772. This may have been at the Carron Works as calcining kilns are shown there from an early date.

Shown on the 1860 OS map as disused. This kiln may have gone out of use in the late 18th century shortly after the opening of the Forth and Clyde Canal which flooded the market with cheap lime. The nearest source of limestone is at Castlecary, a mile to the W. In 1992 it was excavated by the Falkirk Local history Society; report in Calatria 3.
