Scottish Central Railway (Denny Branch Extension) from the Denny Railway at East Boreland to Quarter Pit, a distance of 2.5km. It was constructed c1860 with a short-lived side branch to ironstone pits at Risk. The line was extended north and east over the following two decades as the Quarter Pit grew in size. By 1920 it had contracted and became known as the Ingliston Branch Railway with the junction at East Boreland called the Ingliston Junction. From the beginning an embankment was built to carry another branch over the River Carron a little west of Dales bridge, but this was never completed.

On top of a low hill is a walled enclosure with an oval upper element (92m x 65m) and a splayed tail trailing down the hill to the south. The drystone perimeter walls are constructed with coursed sandstone with earth dumped on the inside to for a terrace. The enclosure is shown as wooded on the 1st edition OS map and it is possible that it was built for this purpose. It is open land by the time of the 2nd edition. The walls are more substantial and better constructed than would normally be expected for a plantation and it is possible that this is the Lawhill referred to by Johnston of Kirkland in 1720.

In the 18th century water was supplied to the town of Falkirk from a spring at the western edge of Callendar Wood. In 1791 this was covered by a well head (see the Barrel Well). After negotiations with William Forbes the source of the water was switched in c1820 to coal working further west near the present railway tunnel and the Barrel Well was used to supply Callendar House. Between the source of the water and the town or the House there is a series of squared stones to mark the line of the pipe.
