"From thence [Bankier Castle opposite Castlecary] going about a quarter of a mile farther east, I was surprised to find a large field, crowded with what seemed to be the foundation and ruins of a large town, called East Bankier... In the middle of these seeming ruins, and marks of streets, I found a square spot of ground, surrounded with a large stone wall, the breadth of which was about 18 feet, and 500 in circumference, with an entry likewise to the east: within the area were sundry divisions, distinguished by other rough stone walls... The circumference of the whole ground on which the ruins appear, is above three quarters of a mile..." (Gordon,A. 1726) There is now no trace of this enclosure.

A field system similar to the so-called Celtic fields at Castledykes, Lanarkshire, was seen on APs to the W of the Roman fort before the area was built over. These are generally seen as being immediately post-Roman. The vicus fields at Carriden may be similar.

Refusal disposal site used by Falkirk burgh c1900-1920. The tip formed a prominent mound immediately to the S of the Antonine Wall, but was mostly removed during opencast operations in 1996.

Small settlement on the old coal road from Linlithgow Bridge to Muiravonside beside a minor bridge over the Manuel Burn. The settlement lies close to the old ford across the river Avon and may be associated with the nearby nunnery. It consists of dwellings on either side of the W/E road with forestairs.

Carriden Fort to Blackness. An eastward extension of the Antonine Wall in the form of a fence or ditch, as happens along the Solway coast of Cumbria to Hadrian's Wall, has often been postulated. It is possible that the early antiquarian references to the end of the Wall at Blackness or Abercorn stem from this extension.

Flood banks were erected on the mudflats of the Forth in order to reclaim land. Most of those between South Alloa and the River Carron are 18th century. Those between the Carron and the Avon may be 17th century, as were those at Kinneil Carse. East of Bo'ness they are early 20th century.

Canal basin on the Union Canal at Causewayend, Muiravonside. 150ft square with railway tracks round the sides with turning points at the corners to allow the railway wagons to be rotated through 90 degrees. The base of a crane can still be seen. Commenced 1836 and opened in 1840 as the terminus of the Slamannan Railway and acted as a transhipment facility for material continuing to Edinburgh by canal. Late medieval & post-medieval pottery has been found in the field to the S of the old Parish Church. This is just the location that the village should be expected given the proximity of the church and the house. The Statistical account notes that the High Street ran along the line of the Antonine Wall. It also notes that the last houses were only removed in the late 18th century. Excavations in Feb 1998 by CFA found some stone walls and a well paved road.
