Falkirk Camelon St John's Parish Church

Biography
Falkirk Camelon St John's Parish Church was first established as a church extension charge following a Linlithgow Presbytery decision in 1835 to increase church accommodation in "the overgrown parish of Falkirk". The church in Camelon was built in 1839 on ground given by William Forbes of Callendar. The first minister, William Branks, was ordained and inducted on 1 October 1841. The Disruption in 1843 saw part of the congregation establishing Camelon Free Church and although William Branks remained in the Church of Scotland, his call to Torphichen left the congregation in vacancy until 1849. The Parish of Camelon was disjoined from Falkirk and erected quoad sacra parish by the Court of Teinds in March 1853. The name St John's was adopted in 1929 at the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church of Scotland. At the same time the congregation adopted a new constitution, replacing the Trustees with an elected congregational board.
