David Beatson Garvie Mitchell
Biography
Mr Mitchell was named after the minister who baptised him at Avonbridge Church - Beatson Garvie. It was the minister's first baptism. David Mitchell applied for a job with Grangemouth Co-op in the 1920s but was turned down because he wasn't a member. He subsequently set up his own business in Avonbridge. He made enough money to look after his family but would not allow his son to follow him into the shoemaking business. His main leisure interest was keeping a pigeon loft.
