William Begg (1815-1888) was the son of James Begg, minister of New Monkland. Educated Monkland and University of Glasgow. Awarded DD Glasgow 1886. Licensed by Presbytery of Hamilton, 27 Sept 1836, assistant minister at St Bernard's, Edinburgh. Ordained 19 Oct 1837 as assistant and successor, New Monkland. Presented to Falkirk in 1840 and admitted 24 July 1840. Married Helen Pagan, from Currieston, Traquhair. 12 children
