Scottish Knights Templar. Carron Preceptory

Biography
The Knights Templar were recognised as an order by a papal bull of 1141 (derived from the Cistercians). It was dissolved in 1312 but in Scotland it continued to be recognised and to hold lands. Prominent members included the Sinclair family (the Earl of Sinclair built Rosslyn Chapel from 1445), and Prince Charles Edward Stuart. In the 19th century the structure was re-organised, and in 1840 the Headquarters of the Magisterial Legation of the Order (SMOTJ) was established in Brussels. In 1963 the Scottish Knights Templar became affiliated to the SMOTJ
