John Beeby

Biography
John Beeby became Collector of Rates in Falkirk Parish in 1848 following the retirement of William Marshall. He became Inspector of the Poor in November 1850 following the death of Mr Girdwood. He also became Clerk to Falkirk Parish Council. He retired in May 1906, prior to which he had been the oldest parochial official in Scotland. Due to his great experience he was known throughout Scotland as an authority on poor law administration. He was also one of the founder members of Pleasance, later Adrian Bowling club. He was also a keen curler. The Beeby Cup played for at Falkirk Curling club was named in his honour.
