James Grossart

Biography
James Grosart was the son of Thomas Grosart,an agent at Grangemouth for the Canal Co. James served as an apprentice in the weaving trade. His brother Thomas re-opened a school in Bryson St Grahamston but after he drowned in the Forth and Clyde Canal in 1820, James was persuaded to replace him as master of the school. As the number of scholars increased, the school moved to Grahams Road. In 1877, he retired having taught for 57 years, but he continued to teach evening classes. He died in his 90th year.
