Trustees of Adam Smith Trust

Biography
Adam Smith was a Solicitor in Falkirk and died in 1886. He had properties at Cangour (near Plean), Wester Seamores, Boghead, Dumbreck and Drumsheuch and his dwelling house at Duncarron, Denny. He purchased the lands of Cangour from Thomas Stuart Smith of Glassingall. The investigation into his affairs after his death showed that he made a loss each of the 18 years before he died. Russel & Aitken dealt with affairs after his death, Henry Aitken having been appointed one of his Trustees. Smith owned the lands of Gartshore, Drumshanty and Dumbreck for the purpose of coal extraction. The case of Smith v Archibald and others related to a well which was claimed to be for community use.
