Muiravonside Parish was disjoined from Falkirk by parliament on 10 June 1648. The church was in existence some sixty years earlier. A mission charge at Standburn was transferred to Avonbridge parish in 1935. The congregation was linked with Shieldhill & Blackbraes Parish Church in 2008.

Cairneymount Church was built as an additional church within the parish following a bequest by Mr John Grubb Urquhart of Vellore. The architect was J D Strang and it was opened in September 1904. In 1973 Cairneymount Church was turned into a church hall and in 2003 (?) the building was sold for development.
