William Gibb
Biography
Elder brother of Robert Gibb, RSA. Renowned for his water colours and lithographs of relics and precious objects. Son of David Gibb, builder and Christine Morrison, of Laurieston. Brother of Robert Gibb. Married a daughter of Archibald Ramsden, who died in 1925. Studied with Robert Scott Lauder, RSA in Edinburgh. Moved to England in 1860s and worked as a draughtsman with Day & Sons, lithographers. Paintings and sketches include a series of water-colours to commemorate the Royal House of Stuart, illustrations in Drummond's "Old Edinburgh", series of "Ancient Scottish Weapons", series of "Musical Instruments, Historic, Rare and Unique, 1888" (lithographs held by Falkirk Museums) "Musical Instruments of Southern India and the Deccan", "naval and Military Trophies".
