Royal Scots Fusiliers
The Royal Scots Fusiliers were raised in 1678 as the Earl of Mar's Regiment of Foot, taking the name Scots Fusiliers in 1685 and the Royal North British Fusiliers in 1713, reverting to the name Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1877. Their main recruiting area was Ayrshire, Dumfries-shire, Kirkcudbrightshire Wigtownshire, Roxburghshire and Selkirkshire. In 1959 they amalgamated with The Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment), to form The Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment)

The company merged with Brunner, Mond & Company Ltd, British Dyestuffs Corporation Ltd, and United Alkali Company Ltd to form ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) in 1926
Hugh Wilson
Hugh Wilson (b. Fenwick, Ayrshire, Scotland, c. 1766; d. Duntocher, Scotland, 1824) adapted a folk tune into a hymn tune in duple meter around 1800, called "Martyrdom".

Hugh Wilson was a draftsman in the Duntocher cotton mill. He was a member of the Secession Church. It is thought that he composed and adapted a number of psalm tunes, but only two have survived.
Kilmarnock Football Club
Kilmarnock Football Club, commonly known as Killie, is a Scottish professional football team based in the town of Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.
Kilmarnock Football Club is currently the oldest football club in the Scottish Premiership, and are also the oldest professional club in Scotland. Home matches are played at Rugby Park, a 17,889 capacity all seater stadium situated in the town itself. Kilmarnock took part in the first ever official match in the Scottish Cup against the now defunct Renton in 1873.
Forbes of Callendar
The Forbes family originated in Aberdeenshire and ran a coppersmith business in Aberdeen. In the 1760s and 1770s the business expanded to London where William Forbes established a separate coppersmith business. Callendar House was bought in 1783 by William Forbes and was owned by his descendants until 1963 when it was sold along with parts of Callendar Park to Falkirk Town Council. The Forbes family continue to own Callendar Estates and also own Sanquhar Estates in Ayrshire (near Prestwick) and Earlstoun Estate in Dumfries. The estates have passed in a direct line through several generations of Williams. The second William Forbes was MP for Stirlingshire , 1835-37 and 1841-55. Later generations were significant local figures.

Nobel Industries Ltd (previously Nobel's Explosives Co) operated an explosives factory at Westquarter where detonators were made for the explosive devices made by Nobel's in Ardeer, Ayrshire. (The Westquarter factory was founded by Westquarter Chemical Co in before 1873). The company merged with Brunner, Mond & Company Ltd, British Dyestuffs Corporation Ltd, and United Alkali Company Ltd to form ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) in 1926. (See also Site authority for further details) George McRoberts was one of the three partners at the Westquarter Chemical Co. In 1873 he became the chief chemist for Ardeer. Shortly thereafter, Nobel bought out McRoberts' two partners. The Westquarter Factory was moved to a different site in 1876. The works closed towards the end of 1965.
