Hugh McPherson
|
Hugh McPherson was the Chief Magistrate of Grangemouth from 1878 to 1892. In 1893 the post was replaced by that of Provost. As Chief Magistrate he oversaw the growth in the town and its industries, gifting land for civic purposes (such as the town hall), setting up the electric power station and enabling the docks to expand.
In 1877 Hugh McPherson joined with D McLaren to set up the Forth Saw Mill on the edge of the Docks, immediately north of Station Rd. It was known locally as “M & M’s”. There were several woodyards in the area specialising in pit props, telegraph poles, boxes, etc. Hugh McPherson died on 8th May 1899. |

Falkirk & Counties Savings Bank
|
Falkirk and Counties Savings Bank was established as Falkirk Savings Bank in 1845 and changed its name to Falkirk & District Savings Bank and then Falkirk and Counties Savings Bank. The Bank owned property in the High St, High Station Rd, the Cow Wynd Falkirk and Station Rd in Grangemouth some of which the Trustees of the Falkirk & Counties Savings Bank conveyed to the Provost, Magistrates and Councillors of the Burgh of Falkirk in 1926.

Originally part of Walter Alexander & Sons Ltd. In 1961 the British Transport Commission created a new holding company, Scottish Omnibuses Group (Holdings), re-named the Scottish Bus Group in 1963. The subsidiary bus companies were re-structured, resulting in the formation of W Alexander & Sons (Midland), W. Alexander & Sons (Fife) and W Alexander & Sons (Northern).
In recent years, W Alexander & Sons (Midland) was taken over by the First Bus Group and re-named. The registered office of First Bus Ltd is in London. First Bus Ltd was incorporated in 1983 with the registration number 01752801. |
