Subject notes
Large quantities were of water were required to drive turbines to produce the electricity needed for the smelting process. The Lochaber Smelter was powered by hydro electricity generated on site by the Lochaber Power Company. The water was drawn from Loch Laggan approximately 26 miles away through an underground conduit.
