Sites and Monument Record: Craigenbuck Limekiln (SMR 85)

Description
Built in 1772 for the Duke of Hamilton's estate at Kinneil (Burrell Papers). The draw kiln went out of use before 1799 because the quality and quantity of lime it produced did not answer to expectation. Limestone was mined from a nearby drift mine, the entrance to which is still open.
