Sites and Monument Record: Kirkland Limekiln (SMR 89)
Description
Johnston mentions a lime craig in 1723 and this quarry is still visible to the N of the Old Denny Road from Larbert. At the W end of the open workings is an entrance to a mine worked by the pillar and stall method, the roof being sandstone. The 1st ed OS map shows a limekiln beside the quarry. The wood now here is called Mine Wood. Presumably coal was also derived locally.
