Sites and Monument Record: Lochgreen Limekiln (SMR 92)

Description
Shown on the 1860 OS map as disused. This kiln may have gone out of use in the late 18th century shortly after the opening of the Forth and Clyde Canal which flooded the market with cheap lime. The nearest source of limestone is at Castlecary, a mile to the W. In 1992 it was excavated by the Falkirk Local history Society; report in Calatria 3.
