Sites and Monument Record: Househill (Dunipace) Temporary Camp (SMR 328)

Description
N of River Carron, NW of Lochlands camps complex. 1.5 km upstream from Larbert Kirk. In the vicinity of Househill Farm. Aerial photographs located the rounded SW angle of the camp together with 180 m of the SW and 150 m of the SE sides. Later field-work provided more clarity: W side was found to be 860 m, N about 610 m, indicating an area of about 54.2 ha. Titulus identified on the N face and 25 m of the rampart and ditch in an adjacent shelter-belt. NE angle also survived as an upstanding earthwork. The camp is large, and perhaps a product of the Severan campaigns.
The camp is sometimes called Dunipace Camp.
