Ex-provost Fred Griffiths started the brickworks in 1874 as a family concern. By 1880 he had been joined by Whyte and Griffiths as partners. Fireclay was obtained from Drum Clay Mine until 1967. In 1901 the sole partner in the firm was Azariah Griffiths. It was incorporated as a private company in 1906. In 1961 the firm was taken over by Scotcros Chemical Products Division, and renamed Bonnybridge Refractories Ltd. In 1971 a new special products unit was opened. In 1972 the company was taken over by G R Stein Refractories, and closed later that year with the loss of 190 jobs.
