Site history notes
The mill first appears in a harter of 1588 when John Livingston of Dunipace received it in a grant. By 1761 there were two mills - the upper and lower mills of Skaithmuir. The lower or Nether Mill became known as Blackmill.
Both mills are shown on an estate plan of 1797. In 1800 the mill was adapted to process pot barley. By 1855 it was occupied by the Carron Co. At about this time the OS Name Book describes it as "A small corn mill, with dwelling house and offices attached, all one storey slated and in good repair. machinery propelled by water. Water wheel, 8 horse power."
Latterly known as Roughlands Smithy. Demolished in 1988.
