Sites and Monument Record: Burnbank Canal Basin (SMR 661)

Description
Stone lined basin on the N side of the Forth & Clyde Canal to the W of Main St in Bainsford. It formed the S termination of a waggonway from the Carron Iron Works to the canal. Two blocked up waggon/cart arches still remain in the S boundary wall which surrounded the basin and is now incorporated into a building. To the west of these, at the edges of the new building, is the bricked up entrance for the barges. To the north this has a return wall of c2 m, made of dressed ashlar, with a rounded terminal. Further west is a blocked up pedestrian access point.
