Sites and Monument Record: Dunipace House (SMR 1094)

Description
The doocot at Dunipace House is all that survives of the old mansion. Prior to conversion to a doocot it was a stair turret at a re-entrant angle to the house. Nothing remains of the later Georgian mansion.
See also the East Lodge and Walled Garden. The drive to the east has a small bridge over a stream with a south parapet that comes to a central point. It is faced with thin ashlar blocks on the side facing the road and capped with rounded copes. The top is tied into a stone gate post with a pyramid cap.

Site history notes
At the time of the second battle of Falkirk Dunipace House was owned by Sir Archibald Primrose. It was temporarily used as the Jacobite headquarters. The estate was forfeited and administered by Forrester of the Braes. Later it passed into the hands of the Spottiswood family and thence to the Harvie Browns. A new Georgian style mansion was built nearby and the old stair tower converted into a doocot.
