Sites and Monument Record: Carron Waggon Way (SMR 1105)
Object detail
Site history notes
In 1810 the Carron Co constructed a waggon way from their works to a bason on the Forth & Clyde Canal at Bainsford. This included the iron bridge over the River Carron, featured elsewhere. The waggon way then followed the west side of Carron Rd on an elevated platform to maintain its level. It passed to the west of the houses along Bainsford Main St, and this back passage is still known as Waggon Rd. The terminal at the canal is also featured elsewhere.
