Site history notes
Links Road was the site of the Bo'ness Gas Works with its square chimney and gasometer. Gas manufacture in Bo'ness dates from May 1844 under the name of the Bo'ness Coal Gas Light Company which tells us that there was no cooking or heating. 1896 saw the name being changed to Bo'ness Gas Light Company, then in 1897 due to an increase in demand the new gas holder was installed which meant that Corbiehall one was abandoned. The cost of the new one was £5,720. In 1949 Nationalisation took over and it became part of the Scottish Gas Board. The gasometer was in use until 1999.
