View of the distillery showing the maltings and kilns indicated by twin pagodas. Bankier was built in 1828 but was closed in 1928. The maltings were used until 1971 and the buildings were demolished in 1981.

The distillery drew its water from Doups Burn. This was the focus of a legal case, John Young & Co versus Bankier Distillery Co (1893). It has become an international landmark in environmental law.
