Description
View looking north up East Row, Standburn, showing the miners' rows. The houses are single storey of brick walls and slate roof. The road is unmade. There is a well in the distance at the edge of the pavement. There is no evidence of waste pipes but there are drains set in the pavement. The residents are plainly dressed. Taken as part of record of replacement of slum housing by Westquarter Model Village, built by Stirling County Council

The houses were built by the owners of the coal mine, James Nimmo and Company. They had no running water or inside toilets. The residents were moved to Westquarter Model Village and the houses were demolished shortly after the photograph was taken.
