Description
Print showing the interior of the Grange Iron Works, Camelon. Two cupolas can be seen in the middle ground with a workman in the distance. Overhead beams support pulleys carrying bucket ladles to take the molten iron from the cupolas to the moulding floor. The print has the name J.W. DAVIE in the bottom right hand corner and it has been signed in pencil just below this on the border. The print is mounted in cardboard in a plain square-sectioned frame, painted black, with glass front. The back is a sheet of wood upon which is stuck a paper label reading: "Cupolas by J.W.Davie. The Cupolas shown are in the foundry of Messrs Grangemouth Iron Co, Falkirk, and were only recently installed, being of the balanced blast type, each having a melting capacity of 14/16 tons per hour. The cupolas are charged automatically and the molten metal is conveyed throughout the foundry on overhead mono rails. This system is also used for the conveyance of all materials and finished products."
