Falkirk School of Arts was founded in 1827. It existed to provide "the instruction of mechanics and others in popular science and the useful arts by means of lectures, apparatus, models and a library". It closed in 1891

Falkirk District Arts & Civic Council
|
Falkirk Town Council gave authority and support to the formation of Falkirk Arts and Civic Council c1951. The main aim of the body is to encourage cultural activity in the burgh and it was financially supported by the Town Council and its successor authorities, Falkirk District Council and Falkirk Council. Its executive committee was originally composed half of town councillors and half of representatives of the constituent bodies of the Arts and Civic Council.

William J Gibson
|
William J Gibson was the Falkirk Burgh Surveyor in the 1920s and Falkirk Burgh Engineer in the 1930s. He designed his own house, Hatherley, in 1904, in co-operation with Thomas Copland, in an Arts & Crafts style.

William W Telfer

William W Telfer (1907-1993) was the Managing Director of Thomas Paul & Co. He was also an artist, and Vice Chairman of Falkirk Arts & Civic Council and was a violinist with the Siddall Orchestra. He conducted the Falkirk Orchestra. He married Marion Robertson (1908-1985) and had two daughters, Marion and Constance.

Liz Murray

Born in Southall, Middlesex in 1961 and studied at Chelsea School of Art, Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, then Blackheath School of Art. She won a Thames & Hudson Drawing Prize in 1984 and has exhibited widely. She was a visiting lecturer at Chelsea School of Art 1992-94. She now lives in Renfrewshire and has exhibited at the RSA from Kilbarchan.

Robert Robertson

Robert Robertson (1802-1865) was called to Bar in 1823. Appointed Sheriff Substitute at Falkirk in June 1850, making his home at Belmont. In 1861 transferred to Stirling. Then soon after moved to Dublin where he died in 1865. Was known as an ardent Shakespeare scholar, lectured at Falkirk School of Arts and was member of Volunteer Corps,
