William Cadell (1737-1819) was an original partner in Carron Co, along with his father (also called William). At the age of 23 he was appointed manager of Carron Co, a post he held for 9 years. He built Carron Park in 1763 and 4 years later bought the estate of Banton. In 1773 he and his brother John purchased a lease in the Grange coalfield and saltworks. These along with other local coal companies they had leased were to be managed under the name of Grange Coal Co.
